Winterguard Urgent Action Items and General Updates

by Jan 28, 2023News, Winter Guard

Hello everyone!

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Kristi LaDuca and I am one of the colorguard instructors as well as the digital art and photography teacher here at Foothill High School. For the winterguard season I will be taking over some of the major communication as we embark on a fun filled season this year! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at the following email address: kladuca@pleasantonusd.net

QUICK REHEARSAL UPDATE: Due to member availability there will be no rehearsal Tomorrow, Saturday 1/28.

This email contains a few urgent action items along with a few general updates. I will be sending a separate email that contains details for our first show at Liberty High School on Saturday 2/4.

URGENT ACTION ITEMS:

  • CARPOOL DRIVER VOLUNTEERS

We need YOUR HELP to get our guard to and from our competitions. As of right now we have one cleared driver able to seat 6 colorguard members. If you are able, please email me as soon as possible with the number of seats available in your car for students. Additionally, include competition dates you are available to drive for the rest of the season.

Each volunteer must complete a three step clearing process:

  • Step 1: Fill out the Volunteer Clearance Form
  • Step 2: Get fingerprinted (CLICK HERE for live scan locations)
  • Step 3: Fill out the Driver Insurance Form as soon as possible. Once the Driver Insurance Form has been completed it needs to be submitted to the school office to complete the clearance process.
  • EMERGENCY FORMS

Each colorguard member must have an Emergency Contact Form filled out for our competition season. EVEN IF YOUR STUDENT FILLED OUT A FORM FOR FALL SEASON we are asking you to fill out the form again for the winter season. A guard instructor or Guard parent will have the forms present at EACH competition. Once the forms are completed, you may have your student submit it to me during B period or rehearsal.

  • EQUIPMENT TRUCKING VOLUNTEERS

We are fortunate this year to have a brand new custom floor for our show, but we need a vehicle and a few parent volunteers to drive our small equipment Uhaul to our shows. Typically, the parent volunteer would be required to pick up the Uhaul truck from the rental store, drive it to Foothill for loading and then drive the equipment to and from the show site. We need a few parent volunteers to help with this task. If you are willing and able please email me as soon as you can!

PLEASE NOTE: We are still working on logistics for our first show for the equipment and floor. We are working closely with Percussion to see if we are able to load our equipment in their truck since we will be attending the same show. Since the specifics are still being deliberated, we will need to have a few trucker volunteers for 2/4 just in case we need to rent a Uhaul for the Liberty show.

GENERAL UPDATES:

  • UNIFORMS

For our first show the guard will be wearing Show Blacks and will not be wearing uniforms. The colorguard staff is currently working on getting the pieces ordered as soon as possible. More information regarding uniforms will be sent out once the pieces are ordered. This includes payments and arrival times. Until then guard members are required to wear Show Blacks. The guard staff asks each member to follow the Do’s and Don’ts listed below:

DO:

  • Wear solid black clothing items
  • Wear stretchy/comfortable items that you can move in
  • Showcase your personality in the items (variety is encouraged)

DON’T:

  • Wear clothing items with logos, pictures or words
  • Wear faded black or dark gray items
  • Wear crop tops. At the very most only 1 inch of skin can be shown between the bottom and top half of the outfit. Including when arms are raised up.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions regarding Show Blacks.

  • SHOW LUNCHES/MEALS

This year students and parents will be responsible for their own meals and lunches on show days. Students will need to either bring their own packed lunch OR bring money for concessions / food trucks at the show site. Staff will be sure to have some water bottles for extra hydration, but members should additionally have their own water bottles for the day.

Please keep an eye out for further communication about our first show, 2/4 at Liberty HS and additional competition information. Thank you for your continued support for our program! We truly can’t wait to see what this winter season will bring for our colorguard members!

Kindly,

Kristi LaDuca
