Jazz A

Jazz A is an audition based group that is designed for advanced students with experience on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, percussion, drum set, or bass. Knowledge of blues scales, all modes, and major/minor scales is required. Students will learn advanced improvisational techniques and rehearse and perform jazz music in all styles and genres. Music theory and music history are also part of the learning for Jazz A. The jazz band will perform at festivals, concerts, and community events throughout the year. Attendance at performances is a required portion of the class.

Jazz A is under the direction of Erik Nishimori.

Jazz B

Jazz B is designed for intermediate students with experience on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, percussion, drum set, or bass. Knowledge of major/minor scales is required. Students will learn intermediate improvisational techniques and rehearse and perform jazz music in all styles and genres. Music theory and music history are part of the learning in Jazz B. The Jazz band will perform at festivals, concerts, and community events throughout the year. Attendance at performances is a required portion of the class.
